So much happening in the garden!
Just a few of our activities include:
On a rainy day, upper grades watched a movie about our 2.2 Billion Pounds of Trash and afterward brainstormed how to solve the problem. Ideas include sending trash to a black hole in outer space and building a time machine to go back and stop the inventor of plastic.
The rose bushes are being transplanted to make way for pending construction. Students have enjoyed the challenge of digging them up. Next we will plant cut flowers in that spot for a quick bloom turnaround before the parking lot gets remodeled. Click here to see: Digging up roses
3rd graders drew lovely riparian habitats and added plant shadow drawings to their journals. 6th graders made Egyptian Limonada, 4th Graders set up a new compost system and found scorpions, salamanders and a snake under a log. Click here to see: Preparing garden beds
5th graders pruned blackberries, 2nd graders transplanted succulents and created rain gauges with charts, 1st graders cracked walnuts and planted poppies. Kindergarteners gifted the chickens with homemade chicken pizzas and planted zinnia seeds. Click here to see: Making chicken pizzas
Many students made letters and cards for our beloved campus cat Zinnia who passed away over the winter break. A student tribute hangs in the window of Phoenix Hall and a peaceful spot was created in the garden honoring him.
